SMARTER COCKPIT
Add the phone experience your car is missing
Decide whether a portable screen meets your navigation, audio and recording needs before choosing a display size.
The situation: the car works, but the interface feels dated
You want maps, calls and music in a more convenient place without replacing a functioning stereo. A portable screen may meet that need by adding a separate phone interface. The purchase should start with the phone and vehicle, not the largest screen available.
If your existing car already provides the phone experience you want, a second display may add little. If your main concern is video evidence, compare a dedicated Dash Cam first. An integrated screen is attractive when both needs matter and its camera configuration is sufficient.
Check the usable space—not only the diagonal measurement
Screen size is a diagonal, not the total width, height or installed footprint. The bezel, mount and viewing angle can make two nominally similar displays fit differently. A larger screen may improve glanceability but occupy space needed for vents, instruments or the view ahead.
Before buying, make a paper template using the published outer dimensions and hold it at the intended mount position while seated normally. Check the road view and controls, then consider where the power cable and any camera cables will run. A template is more useful than comparing product renders at different scales.
Choose orientation around the dashboard
The verified support material identifies iK8 as an 8-inch portrait model, iK7 as a 10-inch screen, iK9 as a 9-inch screen and iK11 as an 11-inch family. These descriptions help form a shortlist, but the current variant and outer dimensions still need confirmation.
A portrait layout may fit one dashboard better; a wider layout may suit another. Neither orientation is automatically more compatible. The shared documentation does not establish a complete approved specification set for every similarly named Pro model, so use each exact product page.
| Vehicle observation | Why it matters | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Limited space above the console | A tall display may block the view | Outer height and installed mount position |
| Wide dash, closely spaced vents | Display width can overlap controls | Outer width and access behind it |
| Curved or textured mounting area | A product photo may show a different surface | Supported mount and surface requirements |
| Shared vehicle | Seat positions and phones may differ | Visibility for both drivers and intended phone mode |
Choose an audio path before choosing the screen
A working map on the display does not mean sound will automatically play through the car speakers. Audio routing is a separate compatibility question. Identify your car's available inputs and compare them with the exact screen's output options.
| Audio route | Good reason to choose it | Condition or trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| AUX | Your stereo has a usable wired input | Cable routing and cable inclusion need checking |
| Car Bluetooth | You want a supported wireless audio route | Confirm the model's car-pairing arrangement |
| FM transmission | The car radio is the practical available input | A matching clear frequency is needed; interference can affect sound |
| Built-in speaker | You do not need the vehicle speakers | Listenability differs from the car's installed audio system |
Treat the rear camera as another buying decision
If you want road evidence behind the car, check rear recording. If you want the display to switch automatically when reversing, check that function and its installation requirements separately. One does not prove the other.
Confirm that the camera is included in the selected bundle and that its cable and connector match the screen. A generic-looking plug does not make another camera compatible. Camera positioning and vehicle cable routing can also make the installation more involved than mounting the display alone.
Choose a shortlist based on the installation
The approved material identifies iK7 as a 10-inch screen and iK9 as a 9-inch screen with integrated front/rear recording features. iK8 is an 8-inch portrait option in the support material. The iK11 family offers a larger 11-inch format, with exact current variant details to confirm.
Start with the sizes and orientation that fit your dashboard, then eliminate candidates that do not match the required phone mode, audio route or camera package. Normal installation uses the supplied car charger; it does not require a hardwire kit or OBD cable.
