01
Start with the incident you would want to understand
Imagine finding damage to your car. A front-facing recording can show the approach to an intersection, traffic lights and a vehicle entering your lane. It may tell you very little about contact at a rear corner or what happened inside the cabin. More resolution cannot recover an event outside the camera's view.
Write down your two most important situations before comparing models: a rear impact during a commute, a passenger dispute, a side scrape in a parking space, or something else. Then match each situation to a physical camera view. This is more useful than starting with the largest channel number.
| Your main concern | View to prioritize | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Traffic ahead and behind | Front + rear | Both channels' simultaneous resolution |
| Passenger interactions | Cabin + road context | Interior framing and cabin low-light capability |
| Events beside the vehicle | Actual side-facing views | Window pillars, tint and lens direction |
| Multiple types of incident | Several complementary views | Wiring, card use and individual camera placement |
02
A channel is a recording view—not a promise of no blind spots
A four-channel layout may cover different areas from another four-channel layout. Ask where each lens faces and where it is mounted. A camera aimed across the cabin can capture some activity through a side window, but a seat, passenger, pillar or reflection may obscure part of that view.
Descriptions such as ‘360° coverage’ refer to several camera views around the vehicle. They do not mean a seamless panoramic recording or that every surface of the car is visible. A real installation photo or a clip from each channel is more informative than a colored coverage cone.
03
More views and more detail answer different questions
Extra views help establish where an event happened. Higher usable image detail may help identify what was in a view. If you mainly need front-and-rear evidence, a strong two-channel system can be a better match than a five-view system selected only for its channel count.
The verified IIWEY comparison lists Q7 with 4K front and 4K rear recording, while N9 has five 1080p views. Neither is a universal upgrade over the other: Q7 emphasizes two-camera detail; N9 emphasizes more simultaneous angles. N5 Pro and N6 Pro are different four-channel alternatives, with their own exact recording configurations.
- Compare all channels in the mode you will actually use.
- Check moving footage, not just a still frame or front-camera headline.
- Do not transfer specifications between a standard model and its Pro version.
04
Account for what the extra cameras add to ownership
A rear camera introduces a cable route through the vehicle. Additional views require placement checks, and more simultaneous files consume more card space. After an incident, you may need matching clips from several channels rather than one file.
For a passenger-facing driver, that work may be worthwhile because cabin context is central to the job. For someone who only wants front-and-rear evidence on short commutes, unused angles can add complexity without addressing the main need. Parking coverage also needs a supported parking mode and compatible power; the presence of side cameras alone does not establish after-ignition recording.
05
Build a shortlist you can explain
Start with N4 or Q5 when front-and-rear coverage is sufficient. Compare Q7 if GPS and front/rear image quality are important. For four-view needs, compare N5, N5 Pro, N6 Pro or C4 Pro according to the exact view layout and specifications. Consider N9 when five views matter more than dual-4K recording.
Before purchasing, open the current product page for each finalist and verify the selected package. A useful final comparison has two or three products with a clear reason for each, rather than every model in the range.
- My essential views are: …
- My highest priority is detail / wider context / simpler installation.
- I do / do not need GPS playback information.
- I do / do not need recording after the ignition is off.
